Case studies

Vulnerabilities

Potential climate change impacts were identified in Hall Beach through the following steps:

1)    Development and review of climate change scenarios;
2)    Review of existing documentation and impact assessment reports and articles;
3)    Community engagement;
4)    Consultation with technical experts;
5)    Development of draft impact statements and identify major uncertainties; and,
6)    Refinement based on feedback from additional community meetings and external reviews.

As a result, the assessment was organized around two broad priority impact areas:

1)    Community infrastructure: Shoreline erosion, building integrity, electrical distribution, water supply, and sewage disposal.
2)    Community Well-being: Travel, hunting and fishing safety, food security, and emergency preparedness.

The summary of potential climate impact assessment for these two areas is shown in Tables 4 and 5. The priority ratings in the tables are based upon information shared and further confirmed by community participants, as well as information gained from the Natural Resources Canada research team and the available baseline data for the region.
