The next step of the SDM process was an analytical exercise in which
the performance of each alternative was estimated in terms of the
evaluation criteria.
The figure below presents the summary evaluation of results for each
potential burn site. A thorough discussion of these results in
a workshop setting led participants to screen out the Swift Current, Yellowhead South, and Upper Fraser sites as inferior options with
relatively higher costs, lower benefits, and higher risks. Using detailed
site maps and spreadsheet tools to re-calculate results, the remaining
options were re-evaluated in various combinations and compared to a "do
nothing" option. In the end, an expanded area of the Moose Lake site was
selected as having the best balance of costs, benefits, and risks.
